 The Grover C. Allen Book Scholarships is awarded annually by the Higher Education Ministry to applicants who have submitted completed applications by the announced deadline and who score highest on the “weighted criteria.”  The number of scholarships awarded each year will vary according to the amount budgeted for this program.  ONLY MEMBERS OF THE M. L. HARRIS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THIS SCHOLARSHIP. The amount that is awarded is $350.00. Grover C. Allen was a faithful member of M.L. Harris UMC. After his death, his children started this scholarship in his memory.

Tamia McFarlan graduated from Shaw High School in May 2018. She will be attending Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She will be majoring in Biology: her future plans are to attend Emory University and become a pediatrician.

In 2018, approximately 10 youth toured the state of Georgia visiting local colleges to see what they had to offer academically and socially. The colleges that were toured was among the following: Albany State University, Valdosta State University, Coastal College in Brunswick, Georgia, and Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Georgia.
